Residents,

Thank you for your patience while we navigate the current fish kill in Ma Me O Beach. Please note that we have new information and direction for residents who are dealing with fish.

While you are not required to assist with picking up fish in the public areas around your property, we appreciate any assistance that you can give. Public Works is working on removing fish from the beach, but the process is slow and new fish are continually washing ashore.

For residents who choose to deal with the dead fish in your area or who have fish on private property, we offer the following instruction:

• ALL FISH MUST BE DOUBLE BAGGED with NO MORE THAN 3 FISH PER BAG. This is very important as the fish get very heavy causing the bags to break and if they are not in bags, the garbage companies will not pick them up. BAGS are available at the Community Hall office during regular office hours!
• Double bagged fish can be placed in your residential bin. Normal pick-up rules apply and bins that are overflowing will not be picked up by the garbage company. Bags left next to your bin will NOT be picked up.
• A large bin will be placed to the Day Use Park tomorrow (Friday, August 7, 2026). Residents are encouraged to bring double bagged dead fish to this bin and either place them in the bin if you are able or place them next to the bin.
• While we wait for the bin to be dropped in the Day Use Park, residents are welcome to bring the bagged fish to the big bin behind the Public Works Shop.
• We realise that not all residents are able to bring fish to the large bins. If necessary, any fish that cannot be disposed of in your residential bin can be left at the garbage bins at the beach accesses for Public Works to pick up.
